About us

The name Obie comes from the filmmaker Lucien Ballard, who in 1944 designed a small spotlight to attach atop a film camera which created a light reflection in the actors’ eyes. That seemingly simple effect became groundbreaking in the filmmakers’ world. The light effect was first called “Catchlight” but later became best known as the “Obie Light”.

The lighting effect caused a spark in the actor’s eyes that created presence and gave depth and soul. The light opened the character’s innermost feeling that there is someone and something more inside. Obie Light symbolizes mystique and sensuality which became the foundation and inspiration for Obie Spa.

Obie Spa is located in Gothenburg at Clarion Hotel Draken and is open both for hotel guests and for  those who just want to visit Obie.
